The Salvation Army

Nonprofit Overview

The Washington Salvation Army strives to help families and individuals develop healthy lifestyles emotionally, mentally & physically. Our programs encourage taking the time to engage with one another in healthy activities & conversations. We offer a variety of programs for the community including Love in a Backpack that provides supplemental food on the weekends for children from 11 local schools during the school year. Best Foot Forward provided over 900 children new shoes in 2022. For the last six years, 1,000 children K-12 have participated in free cooking classes. HISPins Youth Archery Program helps youth focus and work on basic skills.

The Salvation Army Mon Valley located in Donora has focused on developing programming that will bring families together, while building strong healthy relationships that include cooking meals together, watching movies, playing games, and creating art projects; programming that engages the entire family in healthy activities and teach skills to last a lifetime. We're very excited to be able to offer the community a wide range of feeding programs. We are currently offering the “Let Us Eat” program to Douglas students on Wednesdays with a hot nutritious lunch. We offer a Summer Feeding Program and a weekly hot and heathy meal to Monessen youth on Tuesday evenings and Donora youth on Mondays and Wednesdays.
