LeMoyne Community Center

Nonprofit Overview

The LeMoyne Community Center develops, shapes, defines, and stabilizes our community through education, arts, health, and recreational programs.

We are located in the city of Washington, Pennsylvania and founded in 1956. The Center is primarily focused on the need for youth to have a positive outlet for their energy and creativity. We provide a 31-week afterschool programming, backpack give-a-way, summer camp, community events, community mobile feed truck, Lil’ Bitez snack program and our 14 site summer feeding program, Nutrafit. We serve hundreds of at-risk youths throughout the year along with several hundred more community members.

Current Needs

Lemoyne Community Center's current need is to secure financial support to continue our children's programming.

We provide free programming for disadvantaged, at-risk youth, and serve about 800+ youth annually. Programs and activities are held throughout the year, including our Homework and More after-school program and our Camp Challenge summer program. We are seeing a marked improvement in our students' academic performance and social behaviors, and we have a waiting list for some of our programs. In 2025, we started the Little Learners Academy. This 8-week program is specially designed to prepare young learners for a successful transition into kindergarten. Daily instruction is provided from a Pennsylvania Certified Pre-K-4 Teacher, who focuses on strengthening a variety of academic and development skills in a nurturing and engaging environment.

To help keep programming costs low, we rely heavily on the Pathstone work-development program, as well as community volunteers, teachers from local school districts, and volunteers from regional colleges. Grants and corporate sponsorships help us to secure some financial support, but often that support is very specifically targeted. We also conduct solicitations and fundraising events to secure support for our programs. But costs continue to rise, and in some cases state and federal funding has halted causing us a  challenge to secure sufficient financial support to provide and continue our children's programs.
