Allegheny Land Trust

Nonprofit Overview

We are a 501(c)3 land conservation nonprofit created in 1993 to help local people save local land.

OUR MISSION is to conserve and care for local land for the health and well-being of current and future generations. OUR VISION charts a path for a resilient region with abundant green space that is easily accessible and recognized as essential to the quality of life for all.

We are a nationally-accredited conservation land trust, which helps local people save local land. We do this for the benefit of future generations to ensure our communities will have clean water to drink, fresh air to breathe, and maintained trails to recreate on. Our conservation areas are sprinkled throughout Allegheny and Washington Counties.

Current Needs

Our assets are our people and our places. We are made up of a talented and knowledgeable team of staff, Board of Directors, and hundreds of volunteers all offering thousands of hours of dedication to our mission and passion for conservation. Our organization is guided by our 4 strategic pillars, listed below. In this ever-changing political climate, funding and support for conservation and environmental education is at a low point. Individual donations and financial gifts are even more important now than ever. Please consider giving to Allegheny Land Trust via membership, one time or recurring donation, volunteering time, purchasing education supplies, or many other ways! See our website for a list of ways you can help support conservation of local greenspaces and environmental education.

  • LAND CONSERVATION We will act urgently to protect rapidly disappearing green space for the overall well-being of the region.
  • LAND STEWARDSHIP We will manage and care for our conserved green spaces for perpetual community benefit.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION We will teach bold programs that foster an understanding of regional issues and solutions for current and future generations.
  • COMMUNITY CONSERVATION We will empower the community through education, innovative programs, and resources to create equity through conservation.
